Vances story:

Vance went to his doctor back in April to talk about his IBS that has plagued him for many years. His doctor was concerned about how much more he was hurting and not getting any relief from his medications. He was referred to a gastroenterologist for further review. This doctor wanted to do a an upper and lower GI exam. So he was set up to do a colonoscopy. The doctor came to the recovery room to updated my mother and brother about what she had seen. Needless to say they were shocked to hear the word tumor. The doctor was almost certain that it was cancer.
Fast forward to a week later they were setting up appointments to have the tumor biopsy. Fingers crossed that the doctor was not correct with her diagnosis. Unfortunately a few day later the worst fears were confirmed it was CANCER.
Confused and concerned my family stated doing all the research they could. They new the first step was that Vance would have to have surgery to remove the tumor. So two weeks later he was headed to the OR to have this horrible tumor removed.  Five hours later Vance was in the recovery room and my family was anxious to hear the news. They had removed the tumor and about one foot of his large intestine. They were able to reattach the colon removing the need for a colostomy.
Later that week he was released from the hospital. He was to remain off work for 6-8 weeks. The tumor was sent out to the pathologist to determine what kind of cancer and what staging it was. Waiting to hear for over a week was agonizing for everyone. Fingers crossed and lots of prayers later the news. Not good it was stage 3 carcinom.
The tumor had invaded the fat in the abdominal wall as well as some lymph nodes.
So now the journey will begin. Next step placing a port in his chest. Next he will start doing chemotherapy 2 times a week every other week for 6 months. So as of next week June 7th he will start his treatments. Everyone is hoping and praying he will be able to tolerate this treatment. He has along road, but with the support of family and friends he will return as a stronger person. Unfortunately he will be incurring a lot of medical bills over the next few months.
It looks like the chemotherapy will cost approx 1.2 million over the six months. That doesn't include any hospital stay or other doctor visits. This also doesn't include how much money he will lose not being able to work. Money raised will be used for lost wages and medical co-pays
I want to thank everyone for their love ans support for Vinny. He appreciates it all so much. And thru it all he just keeps smiling!
