Our friend, W, moved to the United States from a war zone in the Middle East a couple of years ago. She is a devoted mother of three young children. She and her children are living in a shelter until they can afford a place of their own. Her oldest child, age 8, has severe disabilities and cannot walk, speak, or care for himself in any way; he is completely dependent on W, who currently has to lift him and his very heavy wheelchair into and out of a vehicle to go anywhere. The goal of this GoFundMe is to raise $50,000 to pay the remaining cost of a specialized van with a lift so W does not injure herself lifting her growing son and so that they do not become homebound when he gets too heavy to lift (a local organization is paying for half already). Any excess money raised will be used to get them out of the shelter and into a home of their own.
Phil met W and her children at work, and we have hosted them in our home. W is an incredibly kind and generous person and a diligent parent who is struggling with some extremely difficult circumstances that are entirely out of her control. This one thing would make a huge difference for her. Her two younger kids are very clever and sweet, and their older brother's condition is a simple fact of life for them, but if their family does not have a vehicle to get around in, their opportunities in life will be drastically limited. Please donate if you can.
