Hi, I’m Calista. Many of you know I’ve been living out of my car for some time. For years, I avoided the idea of a van because my first experience came when I was truly homeless, and it carried painful memories. But now, I see a van as a step toward healing, dignity, and freedom.
I’m also facing surgery, though I don’t know when. Every day gets harder — even getting out of bed means pulling myself up with my arms and core, and on painful days it feels impossible. What once was my cozy bed has become a daily struggle.
The doctor told me I had to choose between my physical job and my health. She gave me paperwork for a few days off and told me to look for a part-time office job where I can sit most of the day.
My workplace has been very understanding as my boss said I can come back anytime. So for now I’m stuck: I’m applying to part-time jobs, still technically employed, yet unable to work until I find something I can handle physically.
UPDATED
I’ve found a van that could give me space to breathe and move without pain. It costs $4,500 (was $7k, he came down on it). I can cover the first $1,000, but I need help reaching the rest.
If you don’t feel comfortable with this, I have an Etsy page available you can get a beautiful hand crafted jewelry piece for your money here: ETSY . I’d rather you get something for your money.
Funds will go toward:
Van purchase: $4,500 (updated) (minus my $1,000)
Registration, insurance, and setup: ~$800–$1,000
Any extra: making the van safe for recovery
This isn’t about luxury. It’s about a safe, stable place to heal and live with dignity. Even $10 helps, and if you can’t donate, sharing is just as meaningful.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
