This is Val Lento & she is a warrior!
On February 23, 2022, Mt. Sinai made the decision to remove Val from their program. Due to a few complications that have arisen over the last 6 months, they no longer felt they had the expertise to perform the Multi Visceral transplant she needs. It was devastating news for Val and Gus. After a year of traveling back and forth to NYC, a new plan was needed to save her. But god is good… and yesterday Val got word that Miami Transplant Center (the top facility in the country for this extremely complicated surgery) has decided to take her case. She will be heading to Miami later this month to start the testing process. Obviously, with Val and Gus living in upstate NY, and Gus still working full time, the logistics involved to pull this off are difficult and financially draining. Between the wait, the transplant and recovery Val will likely have to be in Miami for about a year. The costs of going back and forth as well as life long medication is going to cause a terrible hardship. As her support system, we ask that you give if you can & prayers are always needed.

Her Original story is below...
In 2020 Val was diagnosed with end stage liver disease. Many hospital visits and tests later in May 2021 her condition became extreme. She spent 2 weeks intubated and under went a TIPS procedure to restore some function to her liver. She was approved for a liver transplant and the waiting and appointments back and forth to Mt. Sinai in NYC began.
In August 2021 the swelling in her legs and feet were out of control and she was once again admitted to Mt. Sinai. During this trip it was discovered that the TIPS procedure that saved her life had created some changes in her anatomy and a Multi Visceral transplant is now needed. She will need a liver, colon, Stomach, bowel & small intestine all from one donor.
The liver transplant alone is about $812,000!
Val & Gus only need to focus on her transplant and recovery. No one battling for life should have to worry about expenses.
No gift is too small!
