Valmir and Valbrun Family Fire Recovery
Donation protected
On Saturday, June 25th, 2022, Marie Valmir's home in Hyde Park caught on fire. All of the occupants escaped; a few sustained injuries, but thankfully they will recover. There are 7 adults, 2 children under the age of 2, and 2 dogs. The family is in need of funds for new housing, clothing, baby food, childcare assistance, and other costs associated with restarting their lives.
About the Family
Marie Valmir is one of the most remarkable women that you have probably never met. It would not be hyperbolic to say that she's a saint on earth. She has devoted her life to supporting her family - working 70+ hours a week at multiple jobs, and saving every last dollar to buy a home of her own.
Inside that home she has raised her own kids, as well as nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. When extended family or friends suffered through earthquakes and other tragedies, Marie has always opened her door without hesitation to provide shelter, love, support, and amazing food.
Marie is the matriarch of a remarkable family; three of her children - Stephania Valbrun, Charles Valbrun, and Manny Valmir - were my former students when I taught in Hyde Park. They were all displaced in the fire. The home will be uninhabitable for many months; their personal belongings and clothing are essentially gone.
Please contribute whatever you can and spread the word to any colleagues, friends, or family that might be willing to help.
With gratitude,
Greg Henning
