Our names are Angelina and Teall Harkey. We are family and friends of the people affected by the Valley fires.
This fund is being created for my father and step mom, Dennis and Joan Duff, and for my mom, Lena Norgern and Roger Briggs, and for their friends.
On September 12, 2015 at 1:30 a fire broke out and rapidly spread in just a few short hours. The next day in the morning I received a distressed call from my mom stating she had to evacuate her beloved home (which she had just finished remodeling mostly on her own) due to the eminent danger of the fires. She had time to only take few pairs of clothing and important paper work and rushed down the mountian to Calistoga.
By sunday, September 13th the fire had spread to an extraordinary 40,000 acres and was in the path of not only my moms', but my dads', and all of their friends homes. Then that same afternoon I received a devistating call from my dad stating the fire had distroyed his home and his four neighbors homes as well. "There is nothing left", reported a friend to my dad.
My dad and step mom had been on a road trip and were in Tahoe at this time and were unable to collect anything from their home. There neighbor was only able to grab their passports and their car.
This is a community of people whom have lived in this small forested area for 40 years. Most of these people are now in their retirement years and only had their homes with all their memories. 90% of my parents friends live in Cobb, Middletown and Lock Lomond. Unfortunely most of their friends live off social security only and do not have large savings or insurance that will pay for their losses. Additionally, a large number of their friends rent their homes and do not have renters insurance.
It will take a very long time rebuilding their lives and homes and we hope this fund, along with love and prayers, will help our loved ones start to rebuild their lives.
