The beautiful rescue animals living at Valley Run Horse Centre need your help!
Valley Run Horse Centre is a registered not-for-profit, 29 acre sanctuary, providing a safe, loving “home for life” primarily for horses. Though Valley Run started with rescuing horses, other homeless or endangered farm or domestic animals have been brought into the family. The sanctuary residents currently include a total of 15 other animals consisting sheep, chickens, cats, and dogs. The owner, Teri Imre, is a certified riding coach dedicating her life to saving animals who are unwanted, abused, or have outlived their “usefulness” (such as racehorses). Most of the rescued horses have been traumatized before coming to Valley Run and suffered abuse by starvation, neglect, or lack of medical care. Now they are living meaningful, happy lives as part of an active, productive, community.
The horses have been giving back to the community that saved them in many ways. Valley Run offers riding lessons in English and Western, riding and vaulting camps for all levels, competitions, and equine-contact healing therapy for autistic, special needs, blind and riders with health issues such as MS, and handicapped children as well as adults. The other animal residents provide a “petting zoo” atmosphere for children. The sanctuary’s outreach to the province and community is very significant, and their year round riding arena makes it a 12 month opportunity.
Connecting people to our Centre and its animals positively impacts everyone through knowledge and understanding, bringing hope to our wildlife. Valley Run Horse Centre believes that education through rehabilitation is the key to a sustainable future.
Covid restrictions along with increased feed and hay prices have hit the centre hard, and the lives and security of all the horses and other animals are now at risk.
Forced to let go of her 3 full-time staff in June 2022, Teri is temporarily running the center by herself, working 13 hours a day of heavy labour. (She jokes that she has never been so fit!).
For the future financial stability of the centre, she has secured the consulting services of Toronto based Associated Senior Executives of Canada (a-s-e.ca), a group of highly successful and dedicated retired entrepreneurs and CEOs who volunteer their time to help small businesses become profitable and grow. (They provide their services for only a small fee to cover their costs.) ASE will work with the centre to help them adapt to today’s challenges and restore profitability for future financial security.
In the meantime, while this transition takes place, the financial situation of the sanctuary is dire. Without immediate support and with creditors knocking at the door, the animals face losing their homes.
If you are an animal lover like myself and would like to support animals in need by helping Valley Run Horse Centre get back on its feet, please consider donating whatever you can to this Go Fund Me page.
The running costs of the sanctuary are approximately $5000 per month for feed and hay (hay alone is over $100 per day) and basic medical bills for the animals. This excludes insurance, taxes, hydro etc. for the facility, and debts have accrued after running at a loss. We are setting an initial target here of $40,000 to support the sanctuary for a few months and give the animals the quality of life they deserve. This will make it possible for her to focus more energy on rebuilding Valley Run Horse Centre, and work with ASE to implement the updated business model for self sufficiency and a secure future for the animals.
Every dollar will help this horse sanctuary and rehabilitation centre continue to be a beacon of hope for our rescue animals and our patrons.
