Valley Jo Bryan's Brain Tumor Battle

Hi friends. We’re setting up this GoFundMe page for our beautiful friends, Taylor and Joseph, who are facing the unimaginable. Their precious baby girl, Valley Jo, was diagnosed with a brain tumor at just 9 weeks old.

Their Monday started out just like any other Monday, kids off to school, laundry, cleaning etc. They had an appointment for a routine 8 week checkup for Valley Jo at 11 am. The appointment started off normal, when her pediatrician started measuring her head and became instantly concerned about the size and shape. He immediately sent them to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, for a STAT Ultrasound. Within minutes of receiving the results of the Ultrasound, the doctors called Taylor and Joseph and immediately admitted Valley Jo to the Pediatric ICU. The ultrasound showed a “vascular mass” situated on the left side of Valley Jo’s brain.

On Valentine’s Day, they performed an MRI, MRV, and MRA of her brain and an MRI on her spine.

On Wednesday morning, February 15, the Pediatric Neurosurgeon delivered the devastating results that Valley Jo has a brain tumor encompassing the majority of the left side of her brain surrounded by a mass of cysts and intertwined with blood vessels. The tumor and cysts are so enlarged that her brain has “shifted” and is putting pressure on her skull creating some issues with sight and other things.

The pediatric neurosurgeon has given 4 options for surgery depending on what they find when the brain surgery starts. First he will decompress the cysts (drain cysts), try to biopsy a portion of the tumor, full removal if he’s able and the pathology concurs, closure with no removal along with possible chemo, and later surgery or surgeries if none of the above are applicable. This is all depending on how well our Valley Jo can accept and withstand 13+ hours of surgery. The Pediatric Neurosurgeon has indicated that their stay in the hospital will be at a minimum of 2-3 weeks.

Taylor and Joseph are a family of 6. Their 3 older children, Dover, Hampton Pearl, and Rowe are confused and hurting. They are not only away from their baby sister but their parents as well and to a 10 year old and twin 7 year olds, 2-3 weeks seems like an eternity.

Taylor and Joseph are not a family that has ever asked for help of any kind. This situation has come upon them suddenly and has left them feeling lost and unprepared. Their faith is strong and they believe that God is walking with them through this process by means of help coming from all different directions. Gift cards, help with their older children, visits and prayers.

This has been extremely shocking and earth shattering. The cost of the first surgery alone will be astronomical and further expenses like travel for treatment, recovery, and being out of work will compound these costs. Any support you can contribute will be greatly appreciated, but especially we covet your prayers for our sweet Valley Jo, her pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Perez, and his staff. Also, we appreciate the ICU pediatric nurses.
