The Battle of Her Life:
Our beloved friend, mom, and veteran teacher, Valerie Rutz, who has been a beacon of knowledge, compassion and inspiration in our lives, needs your help today. It’s with immense hope and determination that she is facing her greatest challenge– a battle against Stage IV cancer. In June of 2021, she underwent surgery for what the doctors believed was ovarian cancer. As it turned out, it was Stage IV colon cancer. She underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and was told that the cancer was gone. Due to medical mishandling, Valerie had to undergo two more major surgeries, and significant treatments that left her nearly disabled. After two years of this battle, the cancer has returned and Valerie will need more intense treatment out of state. The enormous expense of medical bills and future treatment have now reached a point where financial help is imperative to keep her alive. We are reaching out to our community, friends, and educators to join us in supporting Valerie during this difficult time and help her to offset the growing medical bills.
About Valerie:
Valerie is not just a mom, friend, and teacher; she's a true inspiration in the lives of everyone who meets her. For the past twenty years, she has dedicated herself to nurturing young minds, creating a positive learning environment and educating youth on the history of the world. Her infectious enthusiasm, tireless dedication, and unwavering commitment to her students' growth have left an indelible mark on many.
The Battle Against Cancer:
Cancer is a formidable adversary, and Valerie has been facing it head-on with courage, humility, and grace for over two years now. Despite the challenges and uncertainties that come with a cancer diagnosis, she continues to inspire us with her strength and determination. As she fights for her life and health, we want to stand by her side and provide the support she needs to focus on her recovery.
Valerie’s Valor:
In the words of her friends, Valerie loves fiercely. She will tell you she loves you in one breath and in another hold you accountable for doing something you shouldn’t. It’s all in love and valuing the people she allows into her life. She’s the one to ferociously defend you, make you laugh until you can’t control your own body, and call you on your shite.
She is a courageous lion who will protect you. She will do what needs to be done no matter what. As Noah, her son, says, “you’re the one, mom.” She will do the uncomfortable thing for the good of the pride.
It’s not all seriousness though. She will also pull you into some shenanigans. You have never met a bigger trickster! If you want to have a good time, just wait 5 minutes anywhere with her and something fun is bound to happen.
Valerie’s journey has been extraordinary! As a single mom, with her endless dedication to creating a loving and nurturing home for her boys and working as a teacher….she is simply an inspiration and shows her personal strength and her courage to battle against cancer. She has faced daunting hurdles over the last two years, and yet never allows self-pity to cloud her spirit and rarely complains. She has a unique ability to make each day a great day, by learning something new, experiencing something new, or finding a new way to make those in her life smile or laugh. Valerie is one of the strongest, imaginative, and most positive women we have ever met!
