Valerie Sobotka Pagano is a 1999 graduate of Daemen College's Physical Therapy Program, a Physical Therapist at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician with Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a devoted wife to an adoring husband and a dedicated mother of two wonderful children.
Valerie's life changed a few months ago when she recieved results from medical exams. She has been diagnosed with a very rare tumor called a phyllodes tumor.
Phyllodes tumors are highly unpredictable and have extremely high reoccurrence rates despite removal. Chemo typically doesn't help the tumors unless they have metastasized.
She had the tumor removed with partial mastectomy on September 24th it was 7 cm in size and had clear margins but the margins weren't wide enough and she will need to have a mastectomy next week.
For the short term, Valerie is not able to return to work as a therapist and has only limited income from disability. Despite medical insurance, she has incurred multiple medical expenses. Her diagnosis requires her to travel down state to Memorial Sloan Kettering for care from specialists.
Valerie despises requesting help and prefers to be the one helping others. Her kind and giving heart is matched only by her warm and inviting soul. As she has touched so many people in her life from her time at Daemen College, the various hospitals she has worked helping people recover from injuries and surgeries, responding to medical emergencies and accidental injuries with Duanesburg Ambulance, or collaborating with parents her children's friends and in the Duanesburg Community ~ Valerie and her family have touched each of us in so many ways.
Please consider making a donation to help Valerie and her family through this challenging time.
