Unfortunately, Valentin Gonzalez has suffered a traumatic incident. As you all know, Valentin is known among is family and friends as selfless, empathetic, loving, and simply overall amazing. He is a loving son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather to Paisley and soon to his second granddaughter, Allison.
His most recent selfless act consisted of helping his mother trim a tree. On Saturday, June 13th at 11am, while trimming the tree, Valentin suffered a traumatic 20ft fall that left him unconscious. He was immediately transported by ambulance to a reputable trauma center.
Although the specifics of the fall are not clear, he suffered multiple fractures to his spine and face. He is also being monitored for a brain bleed. Valentin underwent emergency surgery to repair the fractures and reposition his spinal cord. CT scans are being performed to watch the brain bleed closely.
At the present time Valentin is still very disoriented and does not yet remember the fall but is able to recall his name. Neurological tests are being performed around the clock revealing that he is able to move his extremities. A recent facetime call facilitated by his nurses allowed us to see that recovery.
This is going to be a long journey to recovery. Our hopes are that he will soon be moved from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a Step Down Unit. The goal is that he can then be transported to a rehabilitation center. For now, it is too soon to tell how long he will be in the step down unit or how long he will be at the rehab center. I ask that his beloved family and friends participate in helping him with unexpected financial burdens.
Please keep him in your prayers and in your hearts.
