Help Shelley Kick Cancers Butt!

Hi my name is Vanessa Lafleur and our family is facing a scary battle for the second time. My mom Shelley Martineau is 52 years old and battling lung cancer again. In 2018 they were able to remove the cancerous mass and she has been in remission since. However, this fall at a routine checkup we got terrible news. We were told the cancer was back and was growing; it has since grown quickly and aggressively. My mom is a fighter and always has been a fighter raising me and my brother on her own working hard to provide us a nice and secure life. She has always been our (me and my brother Johnathon’s) biggest cheerleader, greatest support system and really our strength when we couldn’t muster it within ourselves.

Now is our turn to be that for her! She needs our support and strength.

My mom has to undergo 8 weeks of treatments which will include a combination of chemo and radiation and although she won’t ever admit it as to not worry us, she is scared. She is worried about how she will financially afford this burden as my mom holds a basic retail job. We always had food on the table, a roof over our head, and a warm safe place to live and grow up in, my mom has always had to work very hard to provide for us.

Money is tight and with the price of everything increasing so much it seems to be getting even tighter. My mom has recently much against her desire been put off work as once she begins her treatments on Monday March 13th she will be simply put, too sick to continue to work until her treatments are over. With this I will be trying my best to pick-up the slack in terms of my mom’s financial commitments which means I am unable to bring her to her appointments. At this time because she works and owns her own car and is under 65 TransporAction (a local community organization) has advised my mom she is not eligible for their services. We have however found another driver for my mom at a low cost and we are grateful for that.

The fact still remains that there will be expenses that will be out of our finical reach that are not covered by benefits such as transportations, certain medications and other unforeseen expenses. My mom is a very proud woman and hates to have to be in a position to ask for help as her whole life she has tried to help others however, she needs help.

We are asking the community if they are able to help in any way no matter how small it may seem to make a donation to help with travel and medical expenses. Our family greatly appreciates your generosity, prayers, and well wishes during this difficult and trying time.
