My name is Tigran Minasyan and I am a resident of Los Angeles, CA. I was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1990 and my family immigrated to the United States in 1992. Almost 6 years ago, I established a non emergency medical transportion company which has grown to be one of the largest in Southern California .
In recent years, I have become more involved in local community activities such as food and toy drives, as well as organizing fundraisers for soldiers and their families in Armenia and Artsakh, especially in early April 2016 when hostilities escalated between Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
On a recent trip to my home country of Armenia, I met a family who lived in the capital city of Yerevan, in the building next to the one that I was residing in for the duration of my trip. The family had a boy, who was 12 years old named Vahe Grigoryan. After interacting with the father of the boy, I realized the sadness that had overtaken his soul. On February 02, 2016, his son Vahe's childhood was crushed when doctors diagnosed him with Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This type of cancer usually gets worse quickly if it is not treated. Although I have no immediate relation to the boy, my interaction with him during my one month stay created a friendship and bond that led me to start this campaign. I will be returning to Armenia in December to check the progress of his treatment.
Vahe has already overcome Induction therapy, which is the first step in the treatment process. The purpose of this first phase of treatment is to kill most of the leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow and to restore normal blood cell production.
He has just recently started Consolidation therapy, which is also called post-remission therapy. This phase of treatment is aimed at destroying any remaining leukemia in the body, such as in the brain or spinal cord. In approximately 4 to 6 weeks, he will begin the third phase of treatment called maintenance therapy which prevents leukemia cells from re growing. The treatments used in this stage are often given at much lower doses over a long period of time, often years.
Vahe's family currently carries a medical expense burden of about 300,000 AMD, which is roughly $631.00 per month. This includes a visit to his hematologist and oncologist three times per week to receive chemotherapy treatment, medication, lab work and imaging such as MRI's and X-Rays to track the progress of the treatment.
Since February, Vahe's family, friends and neighbors have been fundraising since February but are running out of resources to continue treatment, since Armenia is a very small war torn country with a population of just under 3 million. His father is an auto mechanic who earns about 120,000 AMD, about $252.00 and his mother is unemployed.
Vahe dreams of overcoming his sickness and continuing his education. He hopes to one day be accepted to the Polytechnic University of Armenia and eventually master computer programming. Your donation will not only help Vahe continue treatment and overcome his Leukemia, but also help him reach his goals and aspirations.
Any amount would be extremely helpful and appreciated by Vahe. As the author and creater of this fund, I will be donating the first $100 to the cause.
All of the funds that are raised will be withdrawn from the account and delivered directly to the family . I will be personally responsible for withdrawing and delivering the funds. The delivery method will be a wire transfer to the family's bank account in Armenia. The funds will be used by the family to pay for the visits to the doctors three times a week (since Armenia is a third world county, the government does not provide health insurance), labs and imaging, and most importantly for chemotherapy treatment and medication. The most expensive medications for the cancer treatment are: Methothrexate N2, Purinethol and Vincristine NS. Other medications that support and Deamethasone.
If you have any questions, please contact me via the site. I will kindly answer any questions, provide clarification and even pass on anything to the family. I will be posting updates as the fundraising proceeds.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Vahe and his illness.
