Hello everyone. About two weeks ago our dog, Milo (4 years old) began showing signs of increased breathing and it got worse everyday. We finally brought him to an emergency vet and quickly found out he was in critical condition. He was brought to an imaging center where they found his chest was completely full of fluid. They had to drain over 1,000 mL of infected fluid from his lungs. He was then moved to an emergency clinic where he was hooked to oxygen and several other IV’s. They had to do a surgery to put chest tubes in. He hardly survived the night there, the vet asked us to come and say goodbye. Luckily, he made it through the night and went for more imaging, where they saw his lungs were severely infected and his chest continued to fill with fluid.
We were advised to bring him to the top vet in our area, WSU veterinary clinic in Pullman, where he is now. There, they immediately conducted a surgery to figure out what was going on. When they cut open his chest, they found the worst pyothorax the vet has ever seen. They had to remove 3/5 lung lobes, peel his lungs from his chest walls and heart, and hook him up to several machines.
He’s been recovering in the ICU for 4 days so far, but his chest is continuing to fill with air and fluid, so he is not healed yet and still fighting.
Unfortunately, this has been incredibly expensive and we did not have pet insurance. The total has already surpassed $25,000 and counting. He may need another surgery this week.
We do not want to lose our young dog, so we are doing everything it takes. We wrestled with the idea of starting a Gofundme, but the costs have surpassed our savings. We don’t expect anyone to donate to Milo, if you can pray and think of him during this time we would appreciate it.
We were advised some people wanted to help with the vet costs. If you’re wanting/able to help with any of these costs, we would be beyond grateful. We’ve applied for a care credit plan and already maxed that out, so anything helps. We appreciate everyone for thinking of us, and more importantly Milo, during this very tough time. Thank you.
