Vader's Healing Journey!
Hi everyone, my name is Shannon, and I’m raising funds for Vader, a brave rescue cat who has already shown incredible strength and a will to survive.
⬛ How I found Vader
I found Vader wedged tightly between a wire fence, completely stuck and terrified. When he finally managed to wiggle himself free, I realized something was terribly wrong! His back legs were completely paralyzed. He couldn’t stand or walk, and he was clearly in pain.
I couldn’t leave him there. I gently secured him into a crate and brought him home so he could rest somewhere safe.
⬛ Vader's first vet visit
The next morning, I rushed Vader to the nearest veterinary clinic. To my shock, they recommended euthanasia immediately without any further testing or attempts to understand what was causing his paralysis.
I refused. I knew he deserved a chance, and I wasn’t ready to give up on him.
⬛ A second opinion & real answers
The following morning, I took Vader to another veterinary office. This time, he received real care.
A full physical examination
A pain injection
Prednisolone
An X‑ray
The X‑ray revealed a broken pelvic bone, which explained the paralysis in his back legs. Despite the severity of his injuries, the vet believed there was still hope.
⬛ Signs of Recovery
With medication, rest, and time, something amazing happened. After two weeks, Vader began to walk again. Slowly and unsteadily, but he was moving and that small step felt like a miracle.
His journey isn’t over, though. His tail still hasn’t healed, and there’s a real possibility it may need to be amputated if it doesn’t regain function.
Where Vader is now
Because I’m currently working out of town, my brother, who lives five hours away kindly offered to foster Vader during this critical stage of recovery. I transported him there myself, got him settled in, and I’ll be traveling back to help with his care as soon as I return.
⚕️Upcoming Medical care
Vader wasn’t neutered or microchipped when I found him, so we’ve scheduled an appointment for March 12th at Brea Regional Animal Hospital in Brea, California. During that visit, he will ~
Receive lab work
Have his progress assessed
Be neutered
Be microchipped
Have his tail evaluated to determine whether amputation is necessary.
This appointment is essential for both his long‑term health and his immediate recovery.
♥️ Why I'm asking for help
Vader has already fought so hard to survive. I want to give him every chance to heal fully, but the ongoing medical costs ~ follow‑up visits, imaging, medication, and potential surgery ~ are more than I can manage alone.
Your support will help cover:
Continued veterinary care
Pain management and medications
Monitoring of his pelvic injury
Possible tail amputation
Neutering and microchipping
Supplies to keep him safe and comfortable during recovery.
❤️ How you can make a difference
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings Vader one step closer to a full and happy life. Even sharing his story helps more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Vader and for caring about a little life that almost didn’t get a second chance. Your kindness truly means the world to us.
Shannon, Chris & Vader
