Meagan's Volunteer Trip to Bali

My name is Meagan Gallant and I am 19 years old from Prince Edward Island, Canada. I attend St. Thomas University in New Brunswick, and I am currently majoring in Human Rights and Criminology. After my undergrad, l plan on continuing on to Law school.
My life goal is to work finding justice for people and give them a voice in unjust situations - in and out of the justice system. This is one of the reasons that I became interested in volunteering abroad. Seeing the outcome of a situation that has been resolved or makes the person in need happier after the help they received, is something that I personally find rewarding.
I have recently been given the opportunity to volunteer in Bali, Indonesia through the IVHQ program starting May 2016. While in Bali for the four week program, I will be participating in the Construction and Renovation Program. This will include working alongside locals and other volunteers to build new structures for community use, renovate existing community buildings and improve civil infrastructure initiatives. This work will benefit the orphanages, schools, community centers and recreational facilities in the community of Ubud in a very positive way. Ubud is a town on the Indonesian island of Bali. Being apart of a community changing project and seeing the positive outcomes first hand for these residents, will be very rewarding.
My fundraising goal amount for this volunteer experience is to cover costs such as travel, housing and building materials for the weeks that I will be there.
