Alvaro was just three weeks away from graduating from Roosevelt High School — a milestone he had worked toward for years — when he was suddenly detained and deported last June. One moment he was preparing to walk across the stage with his friends and teachers; the next, he was taken from his home, his school, and the community that embraced him.
Alvaro broke no laws, caused no harm, and was an asset to this county. He was a dedicated student, a kind friend, and an important part of our Roosevelt family. He showed up every day with resilience, determination, and a smile, building a life here that was full of promise. The United States is the only home he has ever truly known.
When he was deported to Guatemala City, he lost everything — his stability, his education, and the right to celebrate all he had achieved. His humanity was stripped away in an instant.
We want to give some of that back.
We are raising funds to help Alvaro rebuild his life in Guatemala. These funds will support his basic needs, educational opportunities, and long-term stability as he begins again in a place he did not choose. Our hope is that, with time and the right resources, he will eventually be able to return to the United States — the home he deserves.
No young person should lose their future simply because of their circumstances. No student should be denied the dignity of graduation after working so hard to earn it.
Alvaro gave his heart to our school and community. Now it is our turn to show up for him.
Thank you for helping us restore dignity, opportunity, and hope to a young man who deserves to be celebrated — not forgotten.
