Help Rachael Fight Stage IV Lung Cancer

Rachael’s Story, Los Angeles, California
In January 2021 my daughter Rachael fell and hit her head resulting in a weakness on her right side and was taken by ambulance to an LA County hospital.
The diagnosis: Stage IV Lung Cancer with metastatic spread to brain, lymph nodes and bone. The need for treatment was immediate and whole brain and lung radiation was the prescribed treatment. Rachael completed her radiation treatment on March 1, 2021 and then suffered a stroke; causing her to lose use of her right arm and leg, requiring her to use a wheelchair. Her cancer is aggressive and showed signs it was advancing rapidly so Rachael was admitted to the hospital last week to begin chemotherapy.
Rachael is 47 and anyone who knows her knows that she is survivor – life has thrown many challenges her way, but she persisted. She has a beautiful soul and kind heart.
We are a family of two, I am her Mom, and I came back to California immediately after Rachael was diagnosed. (I currently live in South Carolina.) I am here as her full-time caregiver which meant we had to make living arrangements that could accommodate Rachael’s needs. Friends near and far have asked how they can help. The immediate ways people can help are by providing financial support for a hospital bed, monthly rent, and car rental. Rachael’s insurance covers most of her treatment. Our living expenses are putting a real strain on us financially, and currently exceed $3,000 monthly. Donations of any size are welcome and helpful.
Since her diagnosis in January Rachael has never complained or asked, “why me” instead she put on a brave face and has tried hard to make sure her friends (and me) know that she is “ok.” Rachael is fighting for her life yet wants all of us to be ok. That’s Rachael, always putting others first. Now we need to put her first and support her through this fight. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to support Rachael (and me) over the past few months, your love and support gives us the strength we both need every day.
