5th Surgery for my 3 year old Amir
Donation protected
In his short 3 year life, little Amir is on his 5th surgery.
All of his surgeries are due to a rare condition called Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a condition in which the brain makes too much cerebrospinal fluid. This excess of fluid causes pressure and build up because it doesn't flow fast enough through out his body. If untreated, this can be fatal or cause serious delays.
We have been in the children's hospital since May 13th, because his shunt (a device to drain the extra fluid) got infected. He received one surgery to have the device removed. In place they put anther device, called an EVD, it's helps to keep draining the extra fluid while Amir fights this infection. We have to stay in the hospital until his infection is completely gone, which could be another 10+ days. While we've been in the hospital the doctors realized the infection wasn't going away. They had to do another surgery today (05/22) to replace the EVD, since they believed the infection was latching onto it. He will also require one more surgery before we can leave to place a shunt back in, to continue to help with his condition.
As you could imagine, our hospital stay will be very expensive. Along with missing work, and paying for meals on a daily basis.
We ask for any help you can give us during this time.
To learn more about hydrocephalus, I find this link helpful: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/hydrocephalus/detail_hydrocephalus.htm
I hope we can bring a little light to Hydrocephalus. & we can continue to root on our "Little Lion" until he is back to being healthy.
