Hi, I am Ariel, the daughter of Sherrie Sweet. My mother was diagnosed with COPD almost 3 years ago. After watching her mother die of lung cancer, and her father die from COPD, we all knew what that diagnosis meant. We knew what to expect in regards to her decline in health, quality of life, and time left with us. Over the past few years, she quickly became oxygen dependent and her quality of life rapidly declined. Her doctors then gave her amazing and hopeful news. They believed that she would be a good candidate for a double lung transplant. Despite her failing lungs, she was a healthy individual. After many many months of strenuous testing and doctors appointments, she is moving forward in October with the finalization of going into the transplant list. Doctors have informed her that once on the list, typical waiting is only a few short months!
My mother and father are both on disability and fixed income. Because of this, additional medical expenses, including the cost of traveling from Bayfield, CO to Denver CO (around 7 hours away) has really put a financial burden on them.
The upcoming doctors visit is in Denver and requires my parents to stay in Denver for 3-5 days which will be hotel stays and food out of pocket.
Once my mother gets the call for the new lungs, she will need to relocate to Denver for 3 months post surgery.
The reason I’m setting up this GoFundMe is to help offset the costs of this life saving surgery for my parents. Without this surgery, my mom will not be with us much longer, and she will not be able to enjoy the remainder of time she has left with us.
Without aid and generosity from friends and family, my parents cannot afford to let her have this second chance. If you are lead to donate anything, please please do. We also covet your prayers and sharing of this GoFundMe. In this day and age, with technology, I am confident in the generosity and kindness in stranger, friends, and family to come to the rescue of a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
