My name is Sierra. This fund is to raise money to help my mother, Mary Thornton, with her most recent surgery. She very recently had a revision of her cervical esophago-colostomy (basically had her entire throat rebuilt).
Back story: when she was 2 years old she consumed some cleaning products, including Lye, which destroyed her upper digestive system causing her to have multiple surgeries throughout her childhood. She ended up with a throat constructed of materials the doctors told her was the first and only of its kind.
02/05: She underwent the extensive surgery that prompted this page. The physicans has said she is an absolute oddity due to the way they had to repair her throat following the first surgery in the 1960's.
Today I am asking my friends, her friends, family, and anyone with generous heart to donate what they can to help keep me dad at her bedside in Tampa and help them get through this large financial burden. She will be in the hospital for several weeks to come needing much rehabilitation, speech therapy, and possibly another procedure.
My mom is always there to hand out her last dollar, give the shirt off her back, and help those in need. My hope is that now we can return that favor to her.
