Derek Montemayor, a dear friend to many, was recently diagnosed with two types of cancer. On May 9th, he left work because he felt ill and went to the emergency room. At the hospital they did blood work and a sonogram. They found a tumor. Further testing was performed and they discovered that Derek has Non Hodgkins Triple Hit Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. This is a rare and very aggressive cancer. He was immediately sent to Baylor Hospital in Dallas to begin chemo. Once Derek arrived at Baylor, they did a bone marrow biopsy. That test showed a second type of cancer, Follicular Lymphoma. Derek began his first cycle of chemo the first part of June. The doctors stated that he will be in the hospital for at least a month while he receives extensive treatment. While he is in Dallas, his sweet girlfriend Bryttanie, is with him. She has been there from day one and will continue to stay with him until he is discharged. Bryttanie has been his rock through all of this and could use some help also. The hospital does not provide her with any meals or supplies to meet her needs. While Derek is in Dallas, he still has finances to pay at home, as well as meet his needs while in the hospital. Once he is discharged, he will continue to have appointments and treatments in Dallas. He will be unable to return to work for an extended period of time. Anyone who knows Derek knows that he would do anything for others if needed. Once you become his friend, it's a friendship for life. Derek has many friends and family who love him and are ready for him to return home.
