Hello my name is Kengela Charriez, owner of Tribe Meditation, and I am fundraising on behalf of my beautiful sister-friend, Clyda Limbaga a.k.a. Sugar b/c she's the sweetest person I know. This is her story:
As a young teen, I was brought to the US from the Philippines to be adopted, only to arrive and end up in foster care. My legal documentation was mixed up and misplaced, and I was told that I wasn't in the country legally. After 15 years of struggle and trying to establish a home where I was still considered illegal, I came to a day that would change my life forever.
The week of my birthday, in 2015, I found a lump on my breast and was urged by a friend to get it checked. I went to the doctor to be seen and came out with a breast cancer diagnosis. I was in shock...I couldn't understand what was happening to me. I began my chemotherapy in October and endured that for four solid months.
By 2016, I heard the best news in a long while...I was cancer free! I did have surgery but my body rejected the impant. I had a single mastectomy performed and after healing I had to get radiation for a month and a half. Three years post cancer diagnosis, I struggled emotionally and financially. It took a while to find a job and eventually landed a job at a daycare.
I was given 5 years to complete remission and on April 2022 (my final month of remission) I started to feel very, very bad, fainted at my job and was told that I had stage 1 Lung Cancer. I don't even smoke. Several days later, I get a call and come to find out they misdiagnosed me and found that it was breast cancer all over again. Finding out you are sick is unsettling...reliving a traumatic experience...even more worrisome as you already know what you're dealing with. You can begin to dred this beautiful thing called life when it gets too tough to bare. But truly, I WANT to live!
I'm still working as it also helps to keep my mind sharp and busy but I have been down this road before. I know I'll lose days at work either from appointments, from feeling physically ill or from just being mentally drained from the process.
I'm hopeful this time around that I can beat this too. I have family and friends around me to support and encourage me through this difficult time. This is also why you're reading this Gofundme page; my loved ones want to see me well again...and so do I.
Thank you.
