Norma's Breast Cancer Fund

Hi, my name is Amanda and I am fundraising for my mom, Norma, who is currently battling breast cancer.

My mom was diagnosed in May with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She has already completed several weeks of chemo but she still has a way to go; more chemo treatments, followed by surgery and then 4 weeks of radiation.

Due to the toll the cancer was taking on her body, my mom has been out of work since June. My moms career has been in Early Childhood Education and at the time of her diagnosis was serving as a lead teacher at a Head Start in Rowan County. While my mom did qualify for FMLA and short term disability, that time has been depleted and she does not qualify for long term disability through her employer; due to this, my mom has had no form of income for quite a while now. In addition, those benefits expiring also means she lost her health care insurance as well.

We are currently speaking to DSS to see about assistance but they told us it could take weeks, if not months for that to go through. Aside from groceries and every day bills (rent, electricity, etc.) my mom has several medications she must continue to take daily which she cannot currently afford. On top of everything else, the medical bills for her treatments are piling up.

Any funds that are received will go to supporting my mom, both for everyday living and medical expenses. Everyone always says anything will help, but with no source of income or other funds coming in, that is definitely true here.
