"Hello my name is R.J. Kilcher. I have Cerebral Palsy. My birthday is coming up and I really want to donate Crocs shoes to my therapy center and to homeless in Metro Detroit.
I wear AFO's, Ankle and Foot Orthosis every day and night because the Cerebral Palsy mainly affects my legs. My muscles and tendons are too tight and my nerves don't communicate properly with them. The AFO's are helping to stretch my legs, walk more naturally, and are helping prevent my bones from growing wrong. I know how others sometimes look at me and I don't mind explaining to them why I wear braces but it does get tiresome sometimes.
My mom and I would spend hours looking for shoes to fit over my AFO's. We would go to at least a dozen stores and often came home with nothing. My mom ordered special shoes online from a stores that had special AFO shoes. They either did not fit right, had to be extra long/big to get the width I needed or I could not get my shoes on and off by myself.
About a year ago we found a Crocs store at a shopping center near our home. We finally found a store that I could get "NORMAL" shoes from. I was able to put Lego's on them and other kids wear them too. I can put them on and take them off by myself. I am almost 11 so this is BIG!
My birthday is in July, I told my mom that I wanted to do something for others for my birthday. I told her I wanted people to bring Crocs to my party that I can donate to my therapy center or to homless kids in Metro Detroit. Mom asked me to set a goal and I really would like to deliver 100 pairs of Crocs to children who wear AFO's. If I exceed my goal my mom will take me to area shelters to give Crocs to kids in need. "
This is Aimee Kilcher. I am so touched by my sons desire to help others and I know how much this will mean to him. He is contributing his weekly commissions to this cause and is recruiting friends as we speak. R.J. wants to make a difference in others lives. He witnesses others who are less fortunate and always wants to help them. When he made up a flier and told me everything he was going to do I could see the determination and how much this means to him. So, Go Fund Me and a Facebook page were created to help him reach his goal.
We plan on helping the Beaumont Childrens Rehabilitation Center and if we exceed our goal than we will list Shelters we will donate to.
A pair of Crocs cost on average $35.00
