Coast 2 Coast on 2 Wheels
Back in 2020 we, unfortunately, lost my incredible mother Kay Barber to cancer. She truly was an amazing woman and someone who's never far from the thoughts of those that met her. Full of love and with a caring attitude to all, my mum spent her life helping others as part of the NHS, something we were all incredibly proud of her for.
During her last few months the staff at Pendleside Hospice were absolute heroes in making her as comfortable as possible and helping to ensure she got her final wish, to pass peacefully in her own home and surrounded by people she loved, and that loved her too. The staff couldn't have been better and for that, i know i speak for my family when i say we're forever grateful!
Back in January of this year, I set myself a challenge. Something I wanted to do on a purely personal and selfish level. I wanted to ride my bike from coast to coast. 143miles. Not in the usual 3-day time frame, but in under 24hrs. I decided, in the end, to do this challenge on the 15th of July, partly because of the long hours of daylight, but mainly because that’s my mums birthday and I feel like I need her with me on the day.
I didn’t intend to do this for charity to begin with, but the more I thought about it the more I felt I want to give a little something back to the staff that gave my mum their everything and making a donation in her name on her birthday feels like a pretty good way of doing that.
Any donation, large or small, will be incredibly well received and will do direct to the hospice themselves! I’ll keep this page upto date with both the training and how the day itself goes
thank you.
