Marissa’s Medical Expenses

Marissa has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called, Osteosarcoma Stage 2A cancer. She has a tumor on her left femur and it has started to grow into her knee. She had an accident in a stairwell and ended up breaking this leg just above the location of the tumor. She has undergone several tests, biopsies and procedures to obtain her diagnosis and tentative treatment plan.

Marissa has a team of doctors at Mayo Hospital guiding her through her long life changing journey that awaits her. She will be starting chemo treatments soon that will last up to twelve weeks. She will then undergo a huge amputation operation for part of her left leg and will be fitted for a prosthetic leg.

After her amputation, Marissa will continue with her chemo treatments for another twelve weeks. She will also have physical therapy and occupational therapy to assist and prepare her for her new life with accommodations.

At 25 years of age, Marissa has a positive perspective on the treacherous journey that awaits her and is facing all of this with her fighting spirit and determination. She will not let this cancer and amputation get the better of her!
