Hi everyone! My name is Abby and I am the daughter of Dr. Beth Burkhardt. My brother J.P. and I have been so blessed with a strong and resilient mother who made us who we are today!
Our mom was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer. Her diagnosis is severe and her treatment is complex. She is now in Arizona receiving some of the most high quality cancer care in the country. However with this treatment all or most of the cost will be out of pocket. She is expected to incur over $250,000 of out of pocket treatment costs in just the first 3 months. On top of the out of pocket medical expenses she is also on a strict diet, renting a car to get to and from treatment, as well as renting a place to stay in Arizona which adds financial strain.
Our mom is a strong, determined, mom of two with a drive to help others through her counseling services. She is a veteran and an academic! She loves to work out and spend time with our family and dogs. She had a long career as a teacher and elementary guidance counselor. She absolutely adored her school kiddos and would frequently bring them clothes or anything that they needed. She has dedicated her life to helping those around her! She is a tough woman and she would never willingly accept help from anyone. She does so much for everyone else and it is time that we help take care of her.
