Trigeminal Neuralgia

My father developed shingles the week before Easter. A week after the virus went away he developed Trigeminal Neuralgia. Normally, shingles patients can develop Postherpetic Neuralgia with shingles, which is when the damaged nerve tries to heal itself by sending signals to the brain and the feeling is an extreme burning sensation. However the shingles was in my dad’s face and damaged the trigeminal nerve. He has multiple episodes a day, up to 20 at one point, and they feel like hot oil running down his face. His doctors have tried various medications but nothing seemed to work. He was put on a new medication at the hospital this past week and it works great, but our insurance will not cover the cost of the medication. With a discount card the price is still nearly $900. Our family can not afford the price, but he needs this medicine. He has had only 5 episodes daily since he has been on it and he wants to come home from the hospital. Every little bit helps!
