Educate Children from Mutanda Island, Uganda
Donation protected
UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 17th 2024:
I have partnered with Sahel and Sahara Peace and Empowerment. This is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit is dedicated to the same cause of the education of African children. Moving forward, all donations will be routed through this Nonprofit, allowing donors to receive a tax deduction for a charitable contribution for this same cause. I am starting a new gofundme fundraiser that ensures we raise our goal of $22,500.
THE CAUSE:
Uganda has no education requirement. I put up this campaign because I want to send 50 Ugandan children to boarding school. These children are residents of Mutanda Island, a small island located in Lake Mutanda, Uganda. I met these children in October 2022, when I took toys, candy, and school supplies to the Island. While visiting, a teacher informed me that island children aged out of education upon completion of the first grade. Since my first visit, I have purchased shoes, clothes, hygiene supplies, and textbooks for these very needy children.
Now, I want to help educate the children by sending them to one of the boarding schools located in the region. I have spoken with the parents and they are on board and thrilled because “it would be a great impact to their children and also their homes.”
For each child per school term, the cost will be approximately $450, which includes school fees, supplies, uniforms, and the cost of boat travel to the location of the school. And, yes, I will do this every year until the children get through the 7th grade - and beyond if they pursue it.
I have never felt more joy and fulfillment than I did on the day I visited Mutanda Island. The children were beside themselves with happiness over the school supplies and candy, which was a huge treat for them. One little boy took my hand and would not let it go. The others wanted pictures with me, sang songs, and expressed their gratitude by hugging and thanking me. What I did cost me so little, but meant so much to them and their parents.
Education changes lives. I invite you to help change the lives of the children of Mutanda Island.
