Letter to Kathie

I love you Kathie with a K. You are my everything. You are my baby. I spent most of my life lost, angry, and without purpose until I found you. You always thought you were not good enough for me. It was me that had to change to be good enough for you. You taught me how to live again. You made me smile again. You taught me patience, forgiveness, and thankfulness. I’m still working on the patience part. You never tried to change me and make me into something I wasn’t. We rarely argued even when we disagreed. When we did disagree, you would look over the top of your glasses at me and say “Now Don”. My PaPa did me that way too. I have never met someone more kind, forgiving, and considerate. When someone mistreated you, you always blamed yourself and wondered what you had done to cause them to act that way. You are the sweetest person I ever met. You were a simple person but not a plain one. You taught me humility. You never thought you were very smart or pretty. Nothing could be further from the truth. You never tried to be something you weren’t. You always said “I was your almost perfect man”. You are my perfect woman. We found God together. Every time things didn’t go exactly right we would remind each other how blessed our lives had been together and that God would fix our problems and make everything better again. I would have given anything for him to fix things one more time. I’m not mad at God, just sad, so sad. We did everything together. We both always said we couldn’t live without the other. I’m still not sure how that is supposed to work.

Kathie with a K – I love you, always have always will. You always told me “I was your smart man”. The smartest thing I ever did was marry you. I never knew it was possible to be this happy and blessed until I met you.   We enjoyed the sunrise and moonlight, the flowers, squirrels, butterflies and birds. Your woodpecker still comes by most mornings pecking and clucking. I wonder now if it is you, telling me good morning. I kind of like to think it is. I still smile when I think of the way you taught me how to stop and just smell the air. I hope our time apart flies by as fast as our time together so I can see you again soon. I’m gonna be lost without you so you might have to whisper a “Now Don” a time or two. I am so thankful you let me share this life with you.

Many years ago I told you the word bestest was not a real word. You said it was, that it was your special word. You told me in life sometimes there are things that are just too good to be called the best. Kathie Felder I Love You , You are the BESTEST!!
My precious Kathie died 3 weeks ago. I am starting a scholarship in her name. She worked with kids to improve their reading skills. This scholarship will go annually to the student who shows the most improvement between their freshman and senior year. Kathie never thought she was very special. I want her to look down from heaven and see just how imprortant she was . Thanks!
