A golf cart. He was just on a golf cart.
We’ve all been there, jumped in the back of a golf cart and thought, “I’ll be fine, we’re just going down the street...” but the truth is you just never know. I think this story has touched us all, and the newlywed Halls need our support right now.
On the night of June 7th, Kevin was enjoying a Saturday night with his new in-laws at Sodus Point, NY, when they hopped in the golf cart to head back to the boat marina down the street, but they never made it back. The driver lost control, and Kevin needed to be Mercy Flighted to Strong as a level 1 trauma.
His wife Amber, a travel emergency room RN herself, received the phone call while working her shift at a hospital in Syracuse that her husband was not only heading to Strong Hospital but that he was being intubated and sedated in the ICU. He sustained a skull fracture at the base of his skull causing a bleed, as well as a frontal lobe bleed and bilateral orbital fractures.
Kevin, a devoted husband, a loving father to Kiley, a hard worker, and a small business owner, has a long road ahead of him before he gets back on a ladder again doing what he loves most, or enjoying his boat with his family this summer.
With Kevin unable to work, and Amber stepping away from her shifts in the ER to stay by Kevin’s side, the medical needs will be quickly mounting. Amber is continuing to hold it all together—keeping their businesses afloat while caring for him, supporting Kiley in this scary time, continuing to make sure their two dogs’ needs are met, and trying to keep their world steady in the face of uncertainty.
I’m just a friend, deeply touched that this could happen to anyone in the blink of an eye, and created this GoFundMe to offer some relief during this tough time—to lift some of the financial weight because the bill alone from the airlift to the hospital will be hefty, so Amber and her family can focus on what matters most: Kevin’s road to recovery.
