Bruce's Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Samantha and I'm fundraising for my Dad, Bruce. On January 17th he went into the hospital after falling and feeling weak. Over the next 4 days he declined to the point that he had to be intubated on the 21st. They found that he had cryptococcal meningitis and other smaller infections. The meningitis caused over 30 mini strokes throughout his brain. He remained in a coma for about 4 weeks and many professionals told us he would never recover. On February 17th he woke up.
He has been recovering in the hospital ever since and has started to make large strides in the right directions, taking his first step in therapy on May 30th and getting his trach out on June 15th. He has many obstacles ahead, a large one being his loss of vision and the unknown of what damage can be reversed.
His current timeline will have him FINALLY moving to rehab in July. After rehab believes it is safe, he will move in to his parents handicap accessible home with the help of family to care for him. When he is ready he wants to move back to his own home and be as independent as possible.
Although we applied as soon as we could, we have been informed that his disability will take another 8 months to process. In the meantime we are still paying his monthly bills, insurance and we are starting to gradually remodel his home to be accessible when he is able to move home.
All funds will be used to keep him current on his bills and help to put in the required updates to make his home safe and accessible when he is ready to live on his own again.
