Help a brother

I'm not one to ask for help. Nor is my Cousin Larry (The guy on the left in the photo). I didn't even know Larry till five years ago. We are related by Great Great Grandfathers. 3rd cousin. I got into a phase of genealogy, and found this whole Wenzl family in central Kansas that i didn't know I had. Turns out, mostly cops! Who'd have thunk it. We became fast friends, and he (and his other brothers) became fast friends, family, and brothers.

Larry retired from Marysville KS PD a few years ago. While being a cop, he's also running the Wenzl farm in Greenleaf KS that the Wenzl family homesteaded more than 100 years ago. In his retirement, he continued the call by working for small towns. Most recently, Blue Rapids KS PD. A two man police department.

Larry is a family man. Married for 40 years, father of three, grandfather of 5.

January 23rd, Larry had a massive stroke on duty. Fortunately, he got immediate medial attention, was transported to a local small town hospital, and then moved to Nebraska for specialized treatment. He's in ICU. We are lucky we didn't lose him the first day. They opened this skull to relive pressure. He's showing positive signs. Here's where i fully believe in prayer. 'First responder' treatment in my mind.

His wife Sandy is a couple hundred miles from home, living in a hotel at Larry's side. Not all of us cops are cash rich. I never was as a working cop, I'm certainly not as a retired cop. But, I have a few bucks for a brother LEO, Cousin, and great friend. This will help her to be able to stay by his side during what looks to a long recovery. 

For us living in the more Metropolitan areas, be thankful a major trauma center is probably close to you. In the Midwest, not so much.
