This is one of the hardest things i’ve ever had to write but my little girl Nugget needs help, and we can’t do this alone anymore.

I adopted Nugget in 2017 from a rescue after she survived a horrific hoarding situation. She was the only pup in her litter that made it out alive. From the very beginning, she’s been a fighter. Small, scrappy, full of attitude, and absolutely hilarious. She’s the kind of dog who dances when she barks, who makes you laugh every single day, and who has more personality than most humans we know. She has been joy and light all her life.

But this past month has been a nightmare.

Just one day before her bonded friend and my baby Penny passed away, Nugget had surgery to remove a cyst. She never fully bounced back. First came the limp, then an upper respiratory infection, and then the devastating news: her heart murmur had advanced to a stage 4, and her heart is enlarged. She’s now going down the same path as Penny, she’s now on the same medications Penny was on before she died. It’s been heartbreaking.

We’ve already spent thousands trying to save Penny earlier this year. Now, with Nugget crashing so soon after, we are emotionally and financially drained. Her surgery cost and vet bills following have been a couple thousand. She’s barely eating, she’s weak, and we are doing absolutely everything we can. Weekly vet visits, specialty foods, steams, appetite stimulants, heart medications, nausea medications, and more. But it’s getting harder to keep up.

So many of our friends have asked how they can help. Some of you have even already given us financial support, and we are sincerely touched and grateful beyond words. Your kindness and generosity has helped keep us going.

Nugget is still fighting. And we truly believe that if we can just get through this, she has a real shot at healing.
