Help Me Get to the AWPC World Championships
Hi everyone,
My name is Carly Richardson and I’m a competitive powerlifter from West yorkshire. I’ve spent years training, pushing limits, and chasing personal bests — all for moments like this. I’m proud to say I’ve qualified for the AWPC World Powerlifting Championships in Idaho Falls, USA, taking place 29th august 2025 (yes, just a few weeks time!).
But this won’t be just any competition — this may well be my last.
At just 18 years old, I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) — a serious heart condition that affects the heart muscle and makes intense physical exertion dangerous. Against the odds and always with medical supervision, I’ve trained smart, lifted safely, and continued competing for as long as I possibly could.
Now, the time has come i may have to step back for good. This world championship may be the final chapter of my powerlifting journey. And I may well regret not taking the opportunity to head to the US!
I want to give everything I have on the platform one last time — not just for myself, but for everyone who has supported me, trained alongside me, and believed in me through the ups and downs. I want to walk away from this sport knowing I gave it absolutely everything.
One of the things that makes this moment even more meaningful is that I’ll be bringing my 6-year-old son with me. I want him to see, firsthand, what it means to work hard, overcome challenges, and never give up on a goal. My hope is that watching me step on that platform — one last time — will inspire him to chase his own dreams, whatever they may be.
To make this happen, I’m asking for your help.
