Caring for Carrie

Like so many people, Covid and Cancer have taken a toll on our dear friend Carrie. She is one of the first people I called when Vara was diagnosed and continues to show up, any time we need her. Unfortunately, Carrie has gone through two cancers. Thankfully, she survived both. Being a survivor on a single income is devastating, and at times, so scary. She has not asked for financial help during any of her other health battles, but now she needs support. Recently Carrie had to have unexpected surgery to repair the aftereffects of some of her treatment. Unbeknownst to her, she contracted Covid shortly before she went to the ER on Easter Sunday and was diagnosed with Covid on day three of her ten-day hospital stay. All of this has required Carrie to take a lot of time off from work (over a month). She started a new job in January and had very little leave accrued. Her work is being supportive and keeping her job safe and gave her 10 "Covid days." But as of mid-April, she is only receiving part of her salary. The complications of Covid continue to necessitate full-time oxygen and her symptoms have not improved. Thus, she still cannot work. Carrie has medical bills pending, but the most urgent needs are for her rent, car payment and monthly bills so she can focus on her recovery. After that, we assume the medical bills will be extensive. We are hoping our networks can support however possible. Even if sharing with your networks is the best thing you can do, that is a great thing, and we appreciate your support. Urgently we need $1,500.00 to help cover the immediate needs. The hope is Carrie will be back at work full time very soon. But anything we can do to support her healing and reduce financial stress is appreciated. Carrie gives her heart and soul to her family and friends and does so much to help her community, now is our chance to help her.
