Hi Everyone,
I am Rasansie Lankage or Raz for my friends in the US - a Sri Lankan based in New York for 10+ years. I work for a large US based Investment Bank. To give back to my community, I liaise with non-profit organizations and plan various volunteer initiatives at the firm. My brother is Ranidu Lankage. He is a tech entrepreneur and a well-known musician in Sri Lanka, currently based in California. All of our family is back in Sri Lanka.
We are both deeply moved by the attacks that happened in the last few days especially because our father, Brigadier Lanka Jayaratne is an Army vet that fought to bring peace to our country when we were growing up in Sri Lanka. We also have an uncle (late Air Vice Marshal. Kingsley Samaratunga) who was in the Air-Force who also dedicated his life to protect our beautiful country from terrorism. Given the sacrifices so many Sri Lankans made to achieve peace, it’s heartbreaking to see what happened.
All we can do is to come together even from far away to help the innocent families that are affected. The current death toll is close to 250 people and over 500 wounded.
We are doing this on an individual basis. We are looking at best possible options. Currently looking at partnering with two well established non-profit organizations https://www.kindheartedlankans.com & https://educatelanka.org/ who would help us understand the needs on the ground in order to make the most effective donations possible.
The immediate needs are basic - food, hospital beds, medicines but the poor people in these affected areas will need our help for a long time! Therefore, we will be looking into giving monetary donations to individual families who are left disabled and kids who would need educational expenses. Every dollar will go a long way to help those in need.
We are not related to any beneficiary. We will be withdrawing the funds to our personal bank account and delivering the funds to beneficiary by cash/check.
Each of you know us who has donated know us and have our cell phone nos/ so please give my brother/I call for any questions.
