On January 21, I was enjoying a normal Sunday afternoon in a pile of snuggles with my dogs Kermit and Pepper. That is until Pepper had an unfortunate run in with a glass door that shattered, and she was quickly losing a lot of blood. In an effort to save her, I was outside trying to wrap her up to then take her to an emergency vet. During this time, something seriously triggered my other dog Kermit. He completely snapped and started a violent attack on me, supposedly thinking he was protecting his sister Pepper. Now I was in serious danger while Pepper was still in desperate need of help. But Kermit couldn't snap out of his instincts. Thankfully I had been on a phone call trying to get help for Pepper, and the other end of the line hung up to call 911.
After a short while a neighbor came to the rescue, helping me get back inside the house safely. Once the medical team arrived, I was taken to the hospital where I was admitted for 11 days to undergo several surgeries for serious injuries on both legs and for a broken hand. I have since been discharged, and I’m undergoing further outpatient surgeries, appointments, and therapy for both physical and mental trauma. I’m recovering under the care of my loving parents, Christy and Rick, at their home.
Pepper was also rushed to an emergency vet and made it just in time. She is making a full recovery herself, and although I’m grieving, I’m so thankful for the second chance to build a new bond with my sweet girl Pepper for the first time as a family now down to 2.
It has been a very long, rough and devastating journey that is just past its early phases, but Pepper and I are two tough ladies who are both, in the words of my doctors, "very, very lucky" to be here and getting the care we need.
As you can imagine from 11 days in a hospital, 4 surgeries and counting, being out of work for 2+ months, grieving the loss of my dog Kermit,(plus the tragic loss of my best friend 2 weeks later) and the sacrifices of family to be by my side all the while, we could definitely use some support in such a difficult time. Whether a financial contribution, or just a note of well wishes, we wanted to create a landing page for anyone who feels compelled to help out, and to receive updates with my healing progress.
Real quick, I want to make sure your donations are being as utilized as possible. You can Venmo me and I'll receive the full amount rather than GFM fees taking how much they do.
If you've found yourself on this page know that we love you and are so grateful to have you in our lives.
Hug your people and spread the love ❤️
