Kiya's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Kiya was an “accidental adoption” October 16th, 2021. We went to a fall festival called “Puppies and Pumpkins”. All I wanted to do was walk the dogs and enrich them. We went to the Humane Association of Warren County and walked the cages. Kiya was the only one sitting in the corner, quietly, looking sad. We took her out and walked her around the field across their parking lot. I sat down to “get on her level” and she just climbed up into my lap, leaned against me and sighed— that was it. She chose her humans and we knew it. We brought her home that day and started the adventure of loving her. Her first night, she bounced off the walls and howled in her kennel for 7 hours. No amount of consoling helped. Each night got a little better. 6 hours, 4 hours, and then she finally slept through the night. She soiled every surface in the house during her first couple of weeks with us, but we still didn’t give up on her. She chewed tables and walls and tried our patience. We still didn’t give up on her. We worked hard with one-on-one training and made her feel as safe as we could.

She went through having giardia when we first adopted her, chewing on a stick (or eating a bee, we still don’t know)— which caused an injury in her throat that involved a lot of diagnostics to get her healthy again. She found the perfect daycare that allowed her to play and make friends— regardless of her breed. She fell in love with the staff and the mention of the word has her running for her leash.

Then, we started noticing a lump growing on her back end— again to the vet. Match 31, 2022 she was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. The first round of this tumor was easier to remove with surgery and she was quickly on the mend again. She stayed happy and lump free for about a year. Again towards the end of 2023 we started noticing the lump growing back. We monitored it but July 9, 2024 she was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor— again. We had another surgery and had it removed July 31st of 2024. This tumor was roughly the size of 3 golf balls, but they got as much as possible. She began the mend for a happy and lump free dog again. October 23rd, 2024 she was diagnosed a third time— this time it was larger than the last two. We began our journey with an oncologist who has done serval diagnostics including; blood work, ultrasound, Cat-scan, X-rays— you name it. This tumor is now the size of a “few softballs”, growing up in to her pelvic cavity, and pushing against her colon. We didn’t give up on her in the beginning and we’re not going to give up on her now. We want to give her the best chance we can. She’s the absolute sweetest, kindest, silliest pittie anyone will ever meet. People have kids. We can’t have kids. She is our kid.

We are looking for donations towards Kiya’s Fight Against Cancer, to go towards her vet bills and cancer treatments. Anything will help. This sweet girl just turned 4 years old, September of this year. She deserves the BEST CHANCE she can.
