On 02/11/2023, my brother, Efrain Hernandez, lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 47. Only three months prior, we lost our father at 83 years old (Link: https://gofund.me/0d135cff ). My brother was a humble man who was loved by his friends and family and would think of others before himself. We are organizing this fundraiser to offset the costs of his memorial and funeral and provide his family with ease of mind during this emotional time.

Efrain Hernandez was born on November 2, 1975, in Los Angeles to his parents Jose and Obdulia Hernandez, months after arriving from Mexico in search of a better life for their family. He grew up living in South L.A. around cousins, uncles, and aunts who babysat him while his parents worked long, hard hours to make ends meet. The family continued moving around even after the birth of his brother, Jose Alejandro. It was only after their father obtained a steady job that they finally settled in the city of South Gate. Efrain would create most of his long-lasting friendships here while also establishing life-long bonds with his various cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Efrain loved to play sports, hang out with family and friends, and some would even call him a hip-hop connoisseur (or maybe just an enthusiast, his humbleness would correct me if he were still here). He introduced his friends and family to the music he loved, take them to the softball games and tournaments he attended, and most importantly spend time with all of them. Also, if you were a part of his Facebook friends, then you would know how much he loved spending time with "Her". She made him happier than I have ever seen him in my entire life.

Unfortunately, God had different plans for my brother. But rather than see him suffer through the disease that was hurting him these past few months, He made him rest even though friends and family didn't want him to go so young and so soon. As heartbroken as we all were, many of us can smile at the thought of him laughing it up and playing the family game "Paco" with his parents, his Tio Rafa, his Tia Kika, and the many other relatives we have up there, all while the cumbias are playing non-stop (maybe the occasional Tribe Called Quest track mixed in).

I love you, brother. I'll miss you. But as a good friend of ours said: "It's not goodbye, it's see ya later."
