Sylvia's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
UPDATE: We are so grateful for the overwhelming response to this campaign. Thank you. We know that this is a difficult time for many people, so please do not feel that you have to donate. When mum is ready, reading your letters and seeing your photos will help keep her spirits high and go a long way during her recovery. Her mailing address is:

ORIGINAL POST: Thank you so much to everyone for your offers of help and love. We love you all so much and are so appreciative of all of your support. We have started a GoFundMe page to help with the cost of care for my mum.
My mum's accident involved a 1-story fall onto concrete during which she sustained a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, spinal burst fracture, broken collar bone, broken sternum, multiple broken ribs, minor kidney damage and a broken foot. She was flown to Vancouver General Hospital where she spent 7-8 hours in the OR for spinal surgery, and is now receiving specialized care (from the Spine, Neuro, and General Trauma medical teams) in the ICU until she can be transferred to the Spine Unit. The medical teams have stabilized her spine and are closely monitoring her condition. It will be a long road to recovery and it is too soon to tell what that will look like. However, she is still with us and after only a few days is making amazing progress. She can talk, remember many things, and has movement in all of her limbs. She sleeps often, is in a lot of pain (nerve pain from her spinal injury) and is feeling nauseated from the medications. She is looking forward to going home as soon as she can.
I visit her each day, and she is happy to see me. I can now bring her yummy food and drinks to try, as even though she is cleared to eat on her own, she does not want the hospital food. At this time that is the best thing we can do for her is to be there for support and try to make her more comfortable. She cannot receive any gifts or flowers while in ICU. Also, due to COVID, she is only allowed 1 visitor. If you would like to send letters, you can address it to me and I can read and bring them to her when she is ready. Currently, the funds raised here will go toward her "snack budget", ferry costs between the Island and Vancouver for Papa, as well as to help ease the costs of me taking time off work to care for her.
Thank you. Love, Allison.
