Help get Farid's family out of Gaza
Having my own family (pictured), I feel compelled to act.
My name is Raymond Goslitski, and I live in Valencia in Spain. I am a linguist, and apart from translating, editing and proofreading, I also give specialised language training to professionals in international institutions and the diplomatic sector.
Many years ago, back in the early 1990s, I met Farid, a student of architecture at Prague Technical University, who let me stay with him in his small quarters in the Czech capital for a month, even though we hardly knew each other. He showed me true hospitality, kindness and tolerance which remain with me to this day.
He went on to get a PhD from Nottingham University and became Head of Department of Architecture in his hometown university.
That home town happens to be Gaza in Palestine.
I remember very clearly back then asking him why he wanted to return to Palestine at the end of his studies. His reply was, “Because I want to rebuild my homeland.” I learned a lot of life lessons from Farid.
With his wife, Hiam, they have two sons and three daughters. Their children should be in the prime of their lives now – in their final formative years. Their eldest daughter Basma has her sights set on becoming a dentist, and the second sister Basmala is planning to be an engineer. Nesma, the youngest daughter, will soon start her final year of secondary school.

They used to have a family home in Gaza City, but it was bombed (see photos below). They were forced to evacuate to Rafah, where they have been sheltering for the last six months, waiting in hope for an end to the brutal war on their territory.
In order to have their children complete their education in relative peace, they need to get them over the border to Egypt.
The countries bordering Gaza have made it virtually impossible for Palestinians to leave unless they pay a costly coordination fees, although an Egyptian agency can arrange for them to cross into Sinai and on to Cairo. They also deal with all the applications, permissions, visas and transportation out of Gaza.
You can read about it here: LINK
When the hostilities end, and a lasting peace is established, Farid wants to make sure his children are well qualified to help make Palestine a better place, just as he himself had planned to do back in the 1990s.
If you would like to help make sure they achieve their father’s noble goal, please contribute to their fund that I am looking after. Every single penny will go to make sure they can leave Gaza for the time being until they can return to their family home.
As always, I promise to make the whole process as transparent and as open to scrutiny as possible, and I will make sure the money raised reaches its destination.
It is a matter of time now, and the faster we can raise the money, the greater the chance they will all make it through this ordeal.
My friend and his wife (beneficiaries): Farid S Al-Qeeq, Hiam Mahmoud Al-Qeeq
The money will be sent to their bank account once enough funds are raised to start the process. €11,000 will get Basma and Basmala to Egypt to be able to conclude their education. In the end, it would take more than double that amount to allow them all to leave, but we need to be practical.
