The Svitak Bicycle Benefit provides new bicycles for the children of young enlisted families. The organization works with the Top Three Sergeants association at Whiteman AFB in Missouri to determine which families could use a little assistance at Christmas. The bicycles will be purchased at wholesale from A&B Bicycles and Cycles Unlimited in Springfield, MO. The bicycles will be ordered to match the list of gender and ages provided by the Top Three organization. Bicycles will be assembled by students of the Greenwood Laboratory School working under the supervision of professional bicycle mechanics. The bicycles will then be delivered to Whiteman AFB in time for Christmas by volunteers.
The Svitak Bicycle Benefit takes its name from Missouri Sgt. Phil Svitak who lost his life in Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan. Sgt. Svitak was a Crew Chief with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, the group made famous in Black Hawk Down. Sgt. Svitak gave his life attempting a rescue mission. A cycling enthusiast and father of two young boys, the group honors his memory by helping young military families during the holiday season by providing new children's bicycles to honor his life and commitment to our country.
I will raise funds through gofundme.com as well as contacting people in person. The Greenwood booster club will write a check to A&B cycles for the bicycles. I will turn over the individual fundraising checks I receive to the Booster club. My father, David Litherland will electronically receive the funds collected from my gofundme campaign. He will then write a check in that amount to the Booster club which will fully reimburse them for the bicycles purchased. Mrs. Debbie Rollinson, the Treasurer from the Booster club is handling the records. A special thank you again to A&B cycle for the wholesale pricing they are extending to our benefit. We appreciate you!
