My name is Maribel Borbua and I am 45 years of age. I’m a single mother of 3 who are in need of me, while i’m fighting to Live.
My oldest son is 25 years of age. His life has been a battle as well. When I was 7 months pregnant I was told that he would need a pacemaker when he was born. But when he was born the doctor kept him in the hospital for a few days and let him go home without the pacemaker. A couple of days later, he was breathing rapidly and my mother insisted that I take him to the hospital. So I did, when we got to the hospital he was rushed to the ICU and found out that he had pneumonia and his breathing was not good. The doctor worked on him and then informed me that they did the best they could. I was devastated! I begged and begged the doctor to help him PLEASE! I got on my knees and prayed and prayed. By the grace of GOD, they were able to transfer him to another hospital and placed a temporary pacemaker. After days of being in the hospital, the doctors realized that he was having episodes of low sugar. They then diagnosed him with Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1b which is a metabolic disorder caused by enzyme deficiencies affecting either Glycogen synthesis. He was then placed on a feeding tube. Today he 25 years old and still fighting! He has no children and he still lives at home with me. We take care of each other.
My only daughter is 19 years of age and she is the only one who is healthy . Thank God! However, because she is the only girl, she relies on me for everything. We are very close. I am her mother, sister, and friend.
My youngest son is 13 years of age and he was recently diagnosed with AutoImmune Hepatitis. This illness is a chronic, life long disease, where the immune system attacks the liver and causes severe inflammation and damage the vital organ. He also was diagnose with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). PSC is a chronic disease where the bile ducts inside and outside the liver become inflamed and scarred. He has to take several medications everyday for the rest of his life. If he doesn't take his medication he could end up needing a Liver Transplant. As you can see I need my kids as much as they need me.
Just when I thought my load was enough, I was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis in November of 2009. Lupus Nephritis is inflammation of the Kidney that is caused by Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE). Lupus, SLE is an autoimmune disease, and with Lupus the body immune system targets its own body tissues. My case of Lupus involves the Kidneys. Being diagnosed with Lupus SLE both Kidneys went under attack causing me to have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage 5. The last stage! Now I am in pursuit of finding a Kidney Donor. Until then I will need to undergo dialysis.
To top it off you guys are probably wondering who the young guy is in my profile picture, that’s my baby brother Diamond who I raised and cared for like my son. My family and I lost him on February 3, 2018. As you can see I have been faced with trials and tribulations that is unimaginable.
If you are interested in helping to save my life, you are also helping the lives of three young people, my children. For interested donors, my blood type is O+.
For more information on donating a kidney, please contact Mount Sinai Hospital Donor Team at [phone redacted].
Money donated will provide me the means to travel to different states throughout the country, and get on donor lists that have a significantly less waiting period than in New York.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and donating to my cause.
