Help Twiggy come home

Hi, my name is Jonny and Twiggy is my cat. He lives in Portugal with my mom, where I am from. I got him when he was a baby – he is now 10 years old. He is my best friend and the most amazing cat I’ve ever met. He used to love cuddles and to play, but that has changed since I moved to the UK. Because of Brexit, it is no longer allowed to travel with pets in the plane cabin to England. I had two viable options to bring him to my house in Manchester – take him by car (but I don’t drive) or take him on the cargo (vet didn’t recommend this because of his age, and it would be almost 3000£). I entrusted my mother to take good care of him, but unfortunately, this didn’t happen. Twiggy was once extremely cuddly and joyful. When I started going back to Portugal to visit my family, I was expecting him to warmly greet me, and this happened for a while, but with time the meows ended and he stopped coming up to me asking for cuddles. He got very nervous and lost a lot of fur, and he is currently obese because my mom overfeeds him and changes the type of food she gives him every month. My mom chooses to spend no time with him, and he spends the night locked in the living room. He is visibly depressed and anxious, and he is no longer the cat he used to be. He has also contracted what we think is a skin allergy for the second time in his life because my mom refuses to stop buying plants that cats are allergic to. The first time he got it, he was really young and he almost died. Although she was there through this, nothing changed, and he is currently being treated for it but because my mom isn’t good at doing things routinely I don’t trust her to complete his treatment.

Twiggy might not have many years left, especially now that he is sick again. I don’t have a job because it is hard to manage university, chronic pain, and mental illness, but I still wanted to find a way to bring Twiggy to Manchester so he can meet his siblings and live the happy life he deserves, with two parents who will gladly take care of him no matter what happens.

The budget for this was calculated following the following route:

Manchester -> Porto flight

Porto -> Dublin flight

Dublin hotel for 1 night

Holyhead hotel for 1 night

Dublin -> Holyhead ferry

Holyhead -> Manchester car (my partner’s mom will drive us)

It also takes into account extra fees such as new supplies, food, carrier, vaccines, calming sprays, vet visits, and any extra fees we might encounter during the journey. I will also be travelling with my partner because I have chronic pain and will need help carrying everything.
