Help Ezra Get Top Surgery!

My name is Ezra! I am a non-binary lad turning 30 this year (April 25th), and the greatest gift of all would be getting my top surgery funded!

TLDR: This fund will pay for not only my top surgery, but the costs during my recovery time, including: my bills (medical, housing, groceries, etc), keeping my cats fed, and helping improve my overall quality of life.

A bit about me: I live with my fiancée and three, beastly, boy cats. I work as a barista, but in my down time I (try to) make art, play video games, and spend time with my loved ones. I dream of being financially stable enough to make merchandise of my art and my characters, as well as being able to fix up my house. It’s also my dream to go back to school one day.

I’ve been spending the past few years getting my physical and mental health properly treated. While I finally feel I am in a stable place mentally, I have untreated chronic pain and fatigue, which has impeded my progress in getting the care I have desperately needed for a long time.

As a barista, I make enough money to get by, but getting this life saving procedure under the current medical care system requires a little extra help.

If everything goes according to plan, I will be able to

1. have some of my procedure covered by my insurance, and

2. receive a paid leave of absence (LOA) from my job as a barista!

However, this paid LOA only pays me ⅔ of my average paycheck. This is a problem as my household relies on me to pay at least half of its bills. Averaging out 7 months of my paychecks leaves me with just enough to cover my housing costs, not counting my utilities. During my recovery, I will need help covering the costs of my utilities, as well as groceries, supplies for my cats, and supplies for my recovery (medications, accessibility aids, medical supplies, etc). Additionally, I will need help paying for doctor visits in order to make sure I’m healing well after the surgery.

The past year has been incredibly financially draining and stressful for my fiancée and me. My fiancée has been searching for a full time job for months with countless rejections, and my car broke down to the point of the maintenance being worth more than the car. This has made getting to my job and to my doctor appointments difficult, as well as costly.

I don’t have the words to describe how impactful it will be for me to finally get this surgery. Knowing I can live my life in a body I truly feel comfortable in has never felt possible until now. All the help I receive and have received is wholeheartedly appreciated. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to learn about me and for helping me on my journey to loving myself.

Costs breakdown:

-Surgery cost estimate: (I do not have yet; could be $5-8k. I am waiting on a finalized response from my surgery team! Will edit my goal once I know for sure)

-Housing costs: covered by my paycheck if my paid LOA is approved.

-Current medications (post-surgery meds not included): $20/month

-Post-surgery medications: to be determined

-Utilities: ~$200/month

-Groceries: ~$100/month

-Recovery supplies: ~$300

-Cat supplies (litter, food, etc): $100/month

-Appointment copays: $30-50/appointment

LOA planned for at least 3 months. Goal may be adjusted if further recovery time is needed.

Extra funds will go towards getting my name changed, my passport, and future medical appointments, as well as my medical debt.
