In August 2022, while Briane went for a post covid scan of her lungs thinking she contracted pneumonia, doctors discovered two masses, one in each of her lungs. The masses turned out to be stage 4 metastasized melanoma.

Needless to say that this came as a shock to Brie and Mat. She recently began immunotherapy and is hoping that this will halt the cancer.

January 2023 update

It’s been 5 months since Briane’s initial diagnosis of stage 4 melanoma. She has been receiving immunotherapy once a month as her treatment plan and on December 29th, 2022 went in for her first scan. Unfortunately, the results of the scan indicated that her body is not responding to the current immunotherapy treatment. This was hard news for everyone and not what the family was hoping for. Briane will begin a new treatment plan this month, still immunotherapy, with a different set of drugs.

Thanks for all of the continued support (calls, messages, meals, donations) from those who have connected with the family. The support has been greatly appreciated and extremely helpful. We continue to have hope that the new treatment plan will produce results and also know that this is a marathon, not a sprint.

As my sister has continued treatment, she has experienced body aches, fatigue and other side effects that have impacted her everyday life. Donations have helped with childcare, groceries, co-pays, bills, alternative therapies, etc. My sister is a fighter and despite her body aches, fatigue and other side effects she remains positive and so do all of those who love her.
