Two days ago, our sweet, affectionate 6-year-old cat, Wolfie, woke up suddenly unable to walk normally. He began circling in one direction, knuckling one of his front paws, bumping into things, and acting confused. It was terrifying to see such a dramatic change in a cat who was completely normal just hours before.
We rushed him to the emergency vet. They ruled out spinal injury and obvious systemic causes, and his bloodwork was largely normal. However, his neurologic signs suggest something affecting his brain — possibly a stroke or traumatic brain injury. The only way to know for sure is with an MRI under anesthesia with a veterinary neurologist.
He has always been the gentlest, cuddliest little soul — the kind of cat who curls up on your chest, follows you from room to room, and greets you with soft head bumps. He loves being near us, stretching out in his favorite sunny spots, and snuggling at night. He’s playful but incredibly sweet, and he has been a constant, comforting presence in our home.
Until this week, he was happy, active, and completely himself. One moment he was fine; the next, he wasn’t. Watching him struggle to understand his surroundings has been heartbreaking. He is slightly more aware today, which gives us hope, but we urgently need answers to guide treatment and give him the best possible chance at recovery.
The emergency visit, diagnostics, and upcoming MRI come with significant and unexpected costs. Between specialist care, imaging, anesthesia, and potential follow-up treatment, we are facing thousands of dollars in veterinary expenses.
We are doing everything we can to help him recover and get back to being the cuddly, affectionate boy we know. If you’re able to contribute, any amount makes a difference. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this page would mean so much to us.
Thank you for helping us give him the care he needs. We will never forget your kindness.
