My name is Mary Alice Baldwin. I live in the United States. My heart is bleeding for those who are suffering in Gaza. I know you are feeling the same way.
As the atrocities unfold in Gaza and surrounding areas, it's impossible not to feel helpless. No doubt, you have seen pictures of children with limbs blown away, and skin scorched. You have seen the anguish in every mother’s eyes. You have seen desperation in the father's faces as they uncover yet another body from the rubble. You have likely wanted to help but perhaps have not known how.
Recently, I've connected with a man in desperate need of help. Jehad left Palestine before the war began in search of a better life for his infant and wife. The following months turned into the worst nightmare a parent could think of. That is war. Jehad's wife, still in Palestine, evacuated numerous locations to find safety. Ultimately, she and the baby were forced to flee to Rafah, the southernmost point of Gaza. If/when the ground offensive begins in Rafah, they will likely not survive.
On behalf of Jehad, his wife and his young child, I implore you to consider a donation of any amount. This is a moment where you are not helpless. You can make a huge difference in the lives of Jehad and his family. They must make their way to Egypt to find safety. Unfortunately, Egypt requires $5,000 per adult and $2,500 per child to enter the country. This is a massive amount for people who have had everything taken from them. Jehad and his family will also need travel expenses to relocate (estimated $3,000), money for goverment papers (estimated $500), for a rental apartment (estimated $3,000) and food (estimated $1,000) while the family adjusts to a displaced life. You can make a difference here.
Please, please consider a donation of any amount. I believe we can offer immense support as a community. Take time to imagine yourself in this situation. Would you be thankful for the kindness of strangers? We all may have a need like this one day. Be the good you wish to see in the world.
Thank you so much.
